Electronics Design Outsourcing Understood
The reality of outsourcing American jobs to other countries is quite complex, as people are affected by it both positively and negatively. In most cases, cheaper labor overseas provides a cheaper final domestic product. The electronics industry, specifically the electronic design industry, benefits from domestic production. Higher skilled workers working for higher wages, relative to overseas, produce more at a higher quality.
In order to better understand job outsourcing, one must come to a realization of why such practices have been adopted. Unsurprisingly, the main reason outsourcing exists is to cut company costs and save money. One great disadvantage of job outsourcing is the loss of control over production and quality of the good or service, especially when it comes to electronic design. Relying on an outside company to manufacture products may create headaches, as the central company has a difficult time controlling the quality of products overseas.
The power of America was built on technological supremacy. If technological supremacy is taken away and other countries are able to specialize, the United States is likely to lose the upper hand in the battle to be unsurpassed. Electronic design here in the states is not such a bad thing. Change is inevitable—The world is changing: energy demands and technology are changing, international instability is increasing, and people are growing more worried about economics. Keeping the upper hand in the electronics design industry may be an integral part of staying on our feet.
